What can you do with a CBI, that you cannot do without ...or what can
you do much more easily with one?
(Read below for some suggested Classroom Activities)

- You can use your ordinary handwriting and write directly into a Word Processor,
Spreadsheet etc. (Word, Star Text, Wordpad etc.).
- You can use the whiteboard software to convert your handwriting into text (see

- You can use the whiteboard as a touch-sensitive screen. You can launch programs
from the Start Menu (see this video example
- 600 Kb wmv file), click on hyperlinks, drag and drop items (see

this example- 444 Kb)). ...without pupils wondering "where is Teacher
positioning the mouse at the computer so that the Pointer moves there on the
screen and then he gets that object to move over there!" There is even

- You can Annotate over - and save an annotated frame of - a Video File. (see

- You can Annotate over - and save annotated slides of - a Presentation (such
as PowerPoint: see this video example - 974 Kb
wmv file).
- You can draw freehand shapes, and have them converted automatically into perfect
circles, rectangles etc.
- You can insert images and pictures from a resource bank, and then layer them
one over the other.
- You can hide and reveal objects (including text) by moving away coloured rectangles,
by drawing blinds or by erasing the hiding object.
- You can print and/or save all or a selection of your work on the board.
- You can retrieve and display previous work (from earlier in the class, from
yesterday, from last year) and add new levels of interaction with it. Imagine
revising a topic with an exact replica of the original board work?!
- Many things that you draw on the board can be re-shaped, re-sized, re-coloured,
re-positioned or removed!
- Some things that you draw can be used as 'hyperlinks' to other objects or to
resource documents (such as websites)
- You can capture the desktop, a whole application window or any part of the
screen or of the window; you can then use this as a learning support in your
whiteboard software.
- With a data projector, the whole class can see and participate in the lesson.

- Trace a Map
- Do a Matching Exercise
- Write in Translations of words or sentences
- Re-Playing a Sum (only on some systems)
- Colour in a picture
- Highlight parts of a story or of a picture
- Correct the Spellings (or solve an Anagram)
- Write a Comic-book story
- Cloze test: fill in the missing words
- Trace a Maze
- Solve the Alphabet Code
- Write in Names on a Map
- Solve a Wordsearch
- Fill in a Crossword
- Save the work of Teacher and/or Students (and also Print)
- Answer True or False
- Colour in a 100-Square
- Colour in a Fraction Wall
- Identify the differences between two pictures
